About Señor Mann...
I am beginning my second year teaching Spanish at Oakland High School and 16th year overall in the teaching profession. Prior to coming to Oakland, I taught Spanish at Siegel High School and Nashville School of the Arts. I look forward to bringing the same zest and enthusiasm to my Spanish classes at Oakland! I love to travel, and since 2004 I have taken students on multiple trips to Spain, France, Morocco, Monaco, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. Throughout my teaching career, I have been honored as teacher of the year for TPAC's Humanities Outreach in Tennessee program in 2009-2010 for incorporating arts into my curriculum. Consequently, students should expect to sing, dance, and even act throughout their time in my classroom! I was honored again by my former high school, Siegel, in 2012-2013 when I was selected as their teacher of the year. This year I look forward to collaborating with our world language department to help all of our Spanish students achieve greatness! All of us...teachers, staff, administrators, and parents alike...want our students to be the best, brightest, and most prepared for their future after high school! Parents and guardians play an integral role in the success of their child; so I encourage each of you to get involved with your child's education. My teaching philosophy is that as a Spanish teacher, I have the opportunity to not only teach a world language but also teach an appreciation of culture and community. I ask that my students make a commitment to show up and actively participate in every class!
